Overview

Migrations Are Where Traffic Dies

Most organic traffic loss happens during site changes, not algorithm updates. A redesign launches, URLs change without redirects, the new templates drop the H1s and internal links, and three months later someone notices traffic is down 40%. We see it constantly.

Our migration SEO is run from our Manchester studio at 174 Wilmslow Road. We work alongside your developers and designers from planning through to post-launch, owning the SEO checklist so nothing gets missed in the rush to go live.

The work is methodical: benchmark everything before, map every URL, QA the staging site like Google would, then watch Search Console daily after launch and fix issues within hours, not weeks.

We are based in Manchester, UK, and serve US businesses 100% remotely — with live collaboration hours across EST and PST, and everything quoted and invoiced in USD.

What goes wrong

How Migrations Lose Rankings

Redirects are an afterthought. The most common failure: new URLs go live, old URLs 404, and years of link equity evaporates overnight. Redirect mapping needs to happen during planning, not the week before launch.

Templates change silently. The new design looks better but drops H1s, thins out category copy, removes internal links, or slows the site down. Each change is small; together they cost positions across hundreds of pages.

Staging gets indexed. Or the live site launches with noindex still on from staging. Or robots.txt blocks everything. Launch-day technical errors are embarrassingly common and entirely preventable with a checklist.

Content gets "streamlined". Marketing trims 2,000 words of ranking content to 200 words of brand copy. Rankings follow the content out the door. We protect what ranks and migrate it properly.

Questions

Frequently Asked

What is SEO migration?

SEO migration is managing the search-visibility risks of site changes: redesigns, platform moves, domain changes or HTTPS switches — keeping rankings and traffic intact through redirects, QA and monitoring.

How much does migration SEO cost in the US?

Typically $1,500 to $5,000 depending on site size and complexity. Ecommerce replatforms sit higher. It is far cheaper than recovering lost traffic afterwards.

When should you involve an SEO in a redesign?

At the planning stage — before designs are finalised. Retrofitting SEO onto finished designs is expensive and limited.

How long does traffic take to recover after migration?

With proper redirects and QA, expect 2 to 6 weeks of fluctuation then stabilisation. Without it, recovery can take 6 to 12 months — if it happens at all.

Can you fix a migration that already went wrong?

Yes — traffic recovery is a regular engagement. We diagnose what broke (usually redirects, templates or content loss) and rebuild systematically.

Do you work with our developers?

Yes. We write clear tickets with acceptance criteria and QA the staging environment directly.

How do timezones work with a UK-based team?

Manchester is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Time and 8 ahead of Pacific. We hold live calls in your morning (our afternoon) and keep delivery moving async the rest of the day — progress lands in your inbox overnight.
