How to use this meta tag generator

  1. Write your title and description first. These two do the heavy lifting in search results — the counters warn you before Google truncates them.
  2. Add the page URL and a share image. The image is what appears when your page is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn or X, so use a clear 1200 × 630 pixel graphic.
  3. Leave robots on Index, Follow unless you deliberately want the page kept out of search results.
  4. Copy the generated code and paste it into the <head> section of your page, or into the matching fields of your SEO plugin.

What each meta tag actually does

The title tag is the single strongest on-page ranking signal you control, and it becomes the clickable headline in search results. The meta description does not rank you by itself, but a sharp one lifts click-through rate, which is free traffic from positions you already hold. Open Graph tags decide the title, description and image shown when your link is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and most other platforms — without them, the platform guesses, and it usually guesses badly. Twitter card tags do the same job on X. The robots tag tells crawlers whether to index the page and follow its links; it is a powerful switch, which is why the safe default is pre-selected. Google's own snippet documentation explains how titles and descriptions are picked and rewritten. One honest note: the old meta keywords tag is included only because some legacy systems still ask for it — search engines have ignored it for years.

Meta tag mistakes we see on almost every audit

The same title pasted on every page of a site. Descriptions stuffed with keywords instead of written for humans. Missing share images, so product launches get shared with a random screenshot. And the expensive one: a staging site's noindex tag left in place after launch, quietly removing the whole site from Google. A generator fixes the mechanics in minutes, but choosing titles that match real search intent is strategy, not form-filling. That is the work our SEO services team does every day — keyword research, on-page optimisation and technical audits that find the tags, and the problems, you did not know you had.

FAQs

Meta tag questions answered

What are meta tags?

Meta tags are snippets of HTML in a page's head section that describe the page to search engines and social platforms. The most important are the title tag, the meta description, Open Graph tags for social sharing and robots tags that control indexing.

How long should a title tag and meta description be?

Keep title tags around 50 to 60 characters and meta descriptions around 150 to 160 characters. Longer text is not penalised, but Google usually truncates it in results, which can cut off your message mid-sentence.

Do meta keywords still matter for SEO?

No. Google has ignored the meta keywords tag since 2009, and no major search engine uses it for ranking. The generator can still output it for completeness or legacy systems, but your effort belongs in the title, description and content.

Where do I paste the generated tags?

Paste them inside the <head> section of your page's HTML, before the closing </head> tag. In WordPress, an SEO plugin such as Yoast or Rank Math provides fields for the same values. Avoid duplicating tags your theme or plugin already outputs.

What is the difference between Open Graph and Twitter cards?

Open Graph tags control how your page looks when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn and most other platforms. Twitter card tags do the same job on X (Twitter). Setting both means your link shows the right image, title and description everywhere it is shared.
