Overview

Rank the Pages That Sell

Ecommerce SEO is optimising an online store so its category and product pages rank for the searches shoppers make before they buy, such as "men's waterproof walking boots" or a specific product model.

Online stores have SEO problems brochure sites never face: thousands of near-identical product pages, filters that create endless duplicate URLs, products that go out of stock, and manufacturer descriptions copied across hundreds of other retailers.

Because we build Shopify and WooCommerce stores as well as optimise them, we can fix these problems in the store itself rather than handing you a report and hoping a developer gets to it.

What we build

What Our Ecommerce SEO Covers

Keyword and category mapping

Buyer searches matched to the right category, subcategory and product pages, so each page has one clear job.

Category page optimisation

Titles, headings, intro copy and internal links for the pages that usually drive most ecommerce search traffic.

Product page optimisation

Unique descriptions, useful specifications, image alt text and FAQs in place of copied manufacturer text.

Technical SEO for stores

Crawl budget, canonical tags, faceted navigation, pagination and duplicate URL control.

Product structured data

Product, Offer and review markup that matches what is on the page, for richer search results.

Site speed

Image, theme, app and script clean-up so product and collection pages load fast on mobile.

Out-of-stock and discontinued products

Rules that keep rankings when products sell out or are replaced, instead of creating broken pages.

Buying guides and content

Guides and comparisons that answer pre-purchase questions and link shoppers to the right products.

How we work

How We Run Ecommerce SEO

  1. Store audit

A crawl of the whole store to find duplicate URLs, indexing problems, speed issues and thin pages.

  2. Keyword mapping

Commercial searches mapped to categories and products, with gaps identified for new collections.

  3. Technical fixes

Canonicals, filters, redirects, schema and speed improvements implemented in the store.

  4. Category and product content

Priority pages rewritten for shoppers and search, starting with those closest to page one.

  5. Authority building

Links and mentions from relevant publications, suppliers and gift guides.

  6. Report on revenue

Rankings, organic sessions and organic revenue tracked in GA4 each month.

Why stores struggle in search

The Ecommerce SEO Problems Most Agencies Miss

Filters create thousands of duplicate pages. Colour, size and price filters can generate a separate URL for every combination. Left unmanaged, Google spends its time crawling near-duplicates instead of your important categories. The fix is deciding which filtered pages deserve to rank and keeping the rest out of the index.

Copied product descriptions do not rank. When hundreds of retailers use the same manufacturer text, Google has no reason to prefer your page. Rewriting descriptions for your best-selling and highest-margin products first gives the biggest return.

Category pages usually matter more than product pages. Shoppers searching broadly land on categories. A short, useful introduction, clear subcategory links and good internal linking often lift a whole range of products at once.

Structured data must match the page. Product markup with price, availability and genuine reviews can earn richer results, but Google treats markup that does not match the visible page as spam. We only mark up what shoppers can see.

Questions

Frequently Asked

What are ecommerce SEO services?

Ecommerce SEO services optimise an online store's category pages, product pages and technical setup so they rank in Google for the searches shoppers make before buying, increasing organic sales.

How is ecommerce SEO different from normal SEO?

Online stores have large numbers of similar pages, filter URLs, changing stock and copied product descriptions. Ecommerce SEO focuses on controlling duplicates, optimising category pages and making product pages unique.

Do you do Shopify SEO and WooCommerce SEO?

Yes. We optimise Shopify, Shopify Plus, WooCommerce and custom-built stores, and we can implement the technical changes ourselves.

How long does ecommerce SEO take to work?

Technical fixes and category improvements can show results within a few months. Competitive product categories take longer and depend on your store's authority.

Should I optimise category pages or product pages first?

Usually category pages, because they target broader searches with more volume and pass authority to the products they link to. Best-selling products come next.

Where are you based?

We are based at 174 Wilmslow Road in Manchester and work with online stores across the UK.
