Schema Markup Generator

This free schema markup generator builds valid JSON-LD for the three jobs businesses need most — LocalBusiness, FAQ and Service schema — with live validation as you type. Fill in the form, copy the code, paste it on your page. Nothing is uploaded; the generator runs in your browser.

Your JSON-LD schema

After pasting it on your page, test the live URL with Google's Rich Results Test or check the code itself at validator.schema.org.

How to use this schema markup generator

  1. Pick the builder that matches the page: LocalBusiness for your business details page, FAQ for a page with genuine questions and answers, Service for a page selling one service.
  2. Fill in the fields you know. Only the name is required; everything else strengthens the result. The validation box tells you live what is missing and what is merely recommended.
  3. Copy the generated block — script tags included — and paste it into that page's HTML, in the head or just before the closing body tag.
  4. Test the live page with Google's Rich Results Test once it is published, and fix anything it flags.

The three schema types, and when each one earns its place

LocalBusiness is the foundation for any firm customers can visit, call or find on a map. It states your name, address, phone, opening hours and price range in a format no crawler has to guess at — the details that power "near me" results, map listings and the answers AI assistants give when someone asks for a business like yours nearby. Use a specific subtype (Dentist, Plumber, Restaurant) whenever one fits; specificity is free accuracy. Service markup describes one thing you sell: what it is, who provides it, where it is available and what it costs. Put it on the page that sells that service — it is how you tell search engines, unambiguously, "this page is the SEO service offered by this business in this area", which is exactly the query shape that brings enquiries. FAQ markup mirrors real questions and answers printed on the page. Google tightened FAQ rich results in 2023, but the markup still pays: Bing uses it, AI answer engines lift well-structured Q&A verbatim, and writing the questions forces the page to answer what customers actually ask. One rule governs all three: only mark up what is visibly true on the page. Schema that describes content visitors cannot see is the one shortcut in this area that can genuinely hurt you. The vocabulary itself is maintained at schema.org, where every type and property is documented.

Why schema matters more in the AI-answer era

Search is no longer only a list of links. When someone asks an AI assistant "who does web design in Manchester?" or "how much does an SEO audit cost?", the answer is assembled from sources the system can parse confidently. Clean structured data is the most parseable content on your site — it is your business, stated as facts. Sites with complete, accurate schema are simply easier to cite than sites whose details have to be scraped from paragraphs. That is why this generator sits alongside our free SEO audit, which checks whether your pages carry schema at all. Generating the code is the easy half, though. Choosing the right types across a whole site, keeping them accurate as prices and hours change, and combining them with the content they describe is ongoing technical work — the kind our technical SEO team builds into every site we manage.

FAQs

Schema markup questions answered

What is schema markup?

Schema markup is a standard vocabulary (from schema.org) that you add to a page as JSON-LD code to state plainly what things are — this is a business, at this address, offering this service, answering these questions. Search engines and AI assistants read it to understand and cite your content accurately instead of guessing from the page text.

Does adding schema guarantee rich results or stars in Google?

No. Schema makes your page eligible for rich results; Google decides whether to show them, based on the page quality, relevance and its own rules. Anyone who guarantees stars is overselling. Schema is still worth adding: it removes ambiguity, helps AI assistants quote you correctly, and powers features in Bing and other engines even when Google shows a plain result.

Which schema type does my business need?

If customers visit or call a real business, start with LocalBusiness — it carries your name, address, phone and opening hours. Add Service markup for each key service you sell, and FAQ markup only for genuine question-and-answer content that is visible on the page itself. Most businesses need all three, on different pages.

Where do I paste the generated JSON-LD?

Paste the whole block — including the script tags — into the page it describes, either in the head section or just before the closing body tag. One block per page is the usual pattern, and the details in the code must match what visitors can see on the page. Then test the live URL with Google's Rich Results Test.

Can a page have more than one type of schema?

Yes. A service page can carry Service schema and FAQ schema side by side, either as separate script blocks or combined in one graph. Keep each block accurate and only mark up content that genuinely exists on the page — marking up hidden or invented content can earn a manual penalty.
