Bayt al-Qur'an is a self-hosted learning management system for a Qur'an academy, built end to end and running on the client's own infrastructure — no per-seat SaaS fees, no third-party dependency for the parts of the business that matter most: student data and live lessons.
THE PROBLEM
Off-the-shelf tutoring platforms are built for generic subjects. None of them model recurring weekly lesson patterns properly, none track per-ayah Tajweed correction or Hifz (memorisation) progress, and none give a parent a single place to see a child's attendance, progress and invoices without a phone call to the office.
WHAT WE BUILT
An admissions pipeline that takes an enquiry from first contact through trial lesson to approval, provisioning the student account, plan and assigned teacher automatically once a staff member approves it. Recurring lessons are defined once as a standard iCalendar recurrence rule and expanded into real bookable sessions by a nightly job, so a teacher's weekly availability and a family's booked slot never drift out of sync.
The live classroom is self-hosted video, not a third-party meeting link — join tokens are issued per person and per session, with the assigned teacher becoming moderator and the enrolled student becoming the only other participant able to publish audio and video. After each lesson the teacher logs the range covered, a fluency rating, and specific Tajweed mistakes against a seeded rule set, which also marks attendance automatically. Hifz tracking applies spaced repetition to memorisation revisions, so the system — not the teacher's memory — decides when a surah is due for review.
Homework, certificates with a publicly verifiable serial number, and manual invoicing with parent-visible payment status round out the day-to-day operations, all governed by granular role-based permissions across ten distinct roles from super admin down to parent.
RESULT
A platform that runs the academy's actual operations — admissions, scheduling, teaching records, billing — on infrastructure the client owns outright, with no ongoing licensing cost tied to student numbers.
